Summary: Mint is out of coffee beans for her shop, so she hangs a sign on the door that she'll be back in a few days and heads out on her scooter for the nearest big shopping center, Yokohama. She stops at the gas station down the road to fill up and meets the old man who runs the place, Ojisan. They chat some about how Mint is a minor celebrity in the area, which embarrasses her. She tells him where she's going and he insists that she take the gas for free because she's going so far, and also gives her some advice about the roads being out.
As she thanks the old man and prepares to leave he suddenly speaks up again:
"Say...yer a robot, ain't ya?"
He comments that she looks healthy, and that it must be nice not to have a body that's breaking down like his. Mint chuckles and half-jokingly asks if he wants to trade. Of course they can't really; they're stuck with the bodies God gave them, as Ojisan says. C'est la vie.
Mint rides off, and her thoughts turn briefly to her Owner. Some years ago, he suddenly picked up and went away somewhere, leaving the house and cafe to her. She doesn't know where he is or what he's doing, or when (if) he's coming back, but it doesn't matter. She's a robot. She can wait as long as it takes.
She's shaken out of her thoughts as she comes upon a dead end where the highway has been completely flooded by the rising sea. She's forced to adjust her route to the smaller, higher mountain roads and heads off to Yokohama- or rather, the place that's now called Yokohama, a sprawling town on the hills surrounding the now-underwater metropolis.
She sets out to buy some coffee beans and sort of...gets distracted along the way, picking up a ton of other supplies and knicknacks. The end of the day comes all too quickly and she realizes that she's MYSTERIOUSLY now out of money for a hotel room. OOPS. No worries though; she just parks her scooter up on a hill and spends the pleasant night asleep under the stars. She has no concerns about doing this; somehow, the world has become gentle and calm, as humanity enters it's "twilight age." An age that she'll probably be able to sit back and watch until the very end. After all, she's a robot.
She can wait as long as it takes.
Reaction(s):
-This is obviously her first meeting of Ojisan.
-(which just makes the internal chronology of her cafe all the more frustratingly confusing)
-Yes, for confirmation, she absolutely 100% is a robot, and people in her world can tell this from her appearance.
-So uhhh, further confirmation that my world is totally underwater and the oceans are rising and stuff. How totally wacky is that!
-No one seems super concerned with this, though
-They're just kind of doing their thing while humanity slowly goes extinct
-It's the end of the world as they know it, and they feel fine
