Memory: Story 71: Mountain Path

Summary: Mint has been spending some time working in a teashop on Route 16, where many travelers pass through. She's heard lots of interesting stories from them but one in particular catches her interest, so when she eventually leaves to find her new job she takes a detour to see for herself.
After walking for a long time, she comes to a tiny road that coils through the mountains. It used to be the main road of a town that no longer exists, and the cracked remains of asphalt can still be seen in patches under the overgrown plants and boulders that now cover the valley.
As she follows the path, she eventually finds what she was looking for: bizarre trees that somehow look exactly like old streetlamps. They grow randomly in the area around the path, and they're really just super weird no matter how you look at it.
As night falls, paper lamps lining the footpath begin to light up to help travelers make their way through the valley. Mint watches the winding ribbon of light form, twisting and turning far off into the distance. Then, suddenly...the strange trees begin to glow as well. They shine across the hills, creating their own path separate from the current road- a straight line from one end of the valley to the other, tracing the remains of the former town and its now long-forgotten highway.
